dbaa8b6a1c app, pdb: make it possible to delete a color from a colormap if unused.
Until now, it was not really possible to delete a colormap color, but since we
now use GimpPalette, people would definitely try to do so. It just makes sense
to allow doing this, but only if the color is unused.

Additionally when we do this, all the pixels refering to bigger indexes will be
edited so that they continue to refer to the same color (bigger indexes are
shifted by -1). Therefore removing an unused color does not change the image
render.

I wondered if we might want more options, e.g. the ability to delete a color
without fixing indexes (i.e. that colors over the deleted color index would
shift to the next color). This would even allow to delete used colors (though
now the last index would have to be unused one, unless we cycle colors).
Yet I don't think this should belong to this basic API. The most expected
behavior when deleting a color from an image colormap is to fix all indexes
stored in pixels so that the image still shows the same. So that's what this
function will do in this generic usage.

084906dbf1 app, devel-docs, libgimp, pdb: remove gimp_item_set_linked().
I cleaned many remaining places where the concept of linked item still
survived.
On loading an XCF file with linked items, we are now going to create a
named sets for the linked items, allowing people to easily select these
back if the relation was still needed.

We don't remove gimp_item_get_linked() yet and in particular, we don't
save stored items into XCF files. This will come in an upcoming change.

c45f1b4148 app: add gimp_image_transform()
Add a new gimp_image_transform() function, which transforms the
entire image, including all layers, channels (including selection
mask), vectors, guides, and sample points, according to a
transformation matrix. The canvas is resized according to the
clip_result parameter, the same way drawables are resized during
transformation; the layers are resized using ADJUST mode
regardless.

ed7ea51fb7 app: remove "Edit -> Fade..."
This commit completely removes the "Edit -> Fade..." feature,
because...

- The main reason is that "fade" requires us to keep two buffers,
  instead of one, for each fadeable undo step, doubling (or worse,
  since the extra buffer might have higher precision than the
  drawable) the space consumed by these steps. This has notable
  impact when editing large images. This overhead is incurred even
  when not actually using "fade", and since it seems to be very
  rarely used, this is too wasteful.

- "Fade" is broken in 2.10: when comitting a filter, we copy the
  cached parts of the result into the apply buffer. However, the
  result cache sits after the mode node, while the apply buffer
  should contain the result of the filter *before* the mode node,
  which can lead to wrong results in the general case.

- The same behavior can be trivially achieved "manually", by
  duplicating the layer, editing the duplicate, and changing its
  opacity/mode.

- If we really want this feature, now that most filters are GEGL
  ops, it makes more sense to just add opacity/mode options to the
  filter tool, instead of having this be a separate step.

28e1a379e6 app: remove const qualifiers from all object parameters
They are unreliable because every type checking cast discards them,
they are useless anyway, visual clutter, added inconsistently, and
generally suck. Wanted to do this a long time ago, it was a bad idea
in the first place.

6c48f2b601 Further work for completing bug #362915 that makes changes to the image
2008-08-03  Martin Nordholts  <martinn@svn.gnome.org>

	Further work for completing bug #362915 that makes changes to the
	image size (e.g when cropping) be much more nicely handled by
	display shell.

	* app/core/gimpimage.[ch]: Add new signal
	GimpImage::size-changed-detailed that is emited whenever
	GimpViewable::size-changed is. The new signal provides additional
	information, namely the previous origin relative to the current
	origin. Cliens choose what specific signal to listen to depending
	on how much info they need.

	* app/display/gimpdisplayshell-handlers.c: Connect to
	GimpImage::size-changed-detailed instead of
	GimpViewable::size-changed since the shell wants information about
	the previous image origin.
	(gimp_display_shell_resolution_changed_handler): Use
	gimp_display_shell_scale_resize() instead to avoid display
	garbage.

	* app/display/gimpdisplayshell-scale.[ch]: Add new utility
	function gimp_display_shell_center_image_on_next_size_allocate().

	* app/display/gimpdisplayshell-scroll.[ch]
	(gimp_display_shell_handle_size_changed_detailed): New function
	that replaces logic in gimp_display_shell_handle_size_changed and
	that takes previous-origin of the image into account and adjusts
	the offset so that the image content that remains doesn't move. If
	the window is resized on image resize, just center the image
	afterwards.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo-push.[ch]
	(gimp_image_undo_push_image_size): Add previous-origin paremeters.

	* app/core/gimpimageundo.[ch]: Add and manage previous-origin
	properties so that the display shell offset can be appropriately
	adjusted also when undoing.

	* app/core/gimpundo.h
	* app/core/gimpimage-undo.c: Add previous_origin members to the
	undo accumulator and emit that information when the size of the
	image changes due to the undo.

	* app/core/gimpimage-crop.c (gimp_image_crop)
	* app/core/gimpimage-scale.c (gimp_image_scale)
	* app/core/gimpimage-rotate.c (gimp_image_rotate)
	* app/core/gimpimage-resize.c (gimp_image_resize_with_layers):
	Supply information about the previous-origin of the image to the
	size-changed signals and the undo system.

4b582b481a Replaced the concept of having a boolean indicating if an undo step
2004-07-29  Michael Natterer  <mitch@gimp.org>

	Replaced the concept of having a boolean indicating if an undo
	step dirties the image by a bitfield indicating which parts
	of the image are dirtied:

	* app/core/core-enums.[ch]: reordered two values in enum
	GimpUndoType, added GIMP_DIRTY_IMAGE_SIZE to enum GimpDirtyMask.

	The values of GimpDirtyMask are still questionable and will
	probably change...

	* app/core/gimpimage.[ch]: removed signal "undo_start" and added
	a GimpDirtyMask parameter to the "dirty" and "clean" signals.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo.[ch] (gimp_image_undo_push): replaced
	"gboolean dirties_image" by "GimpDirtyMask dirty_mask" and pass
	it to gimp_image_dirty().

	(gimp_image_undo_group_start): added *ugly* code which tries to
	figure GimpDirtyMask from the group's GimpUndoType and store it in
	the GimpUndoGroup. Call gimp_image_dirty() instead of the removed
	gimp_image_undo_start(). This means the undo group now dirties the
	image just like one of its undo steps, but that's no problem since
	undoing cleans it in the same way.

	* app/core/gimpundo.[ch]: s/dirties_image/dirty_mask/g

	(gimp_undo_pop): emit clean/dirty signals *before* performing the
	actual undo step so listeners can detach from the image before it
	is changed by undo.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo-push.c (gimp_image_undo_push_*): pass a
	GimpDirtyMask instead of TRUE/FALSE to gimp_image_undo_push().

	* app/core/gimpimagemap.[ch]: removed "gboolean interactive"
	because it makes no sense to use GimpImageMap noninteractively.
	Don't freeze()/thaw() undo while the image_map is active which
	fixes many ways of trashing the image's undo state but probably
	introduces new ways of doing evil things.

	* app/display/gimpdisplay-foreach.c
	* app/display/gimpdisplayshell-handlers.c: changed according
	to the GimpImage::clean()/dirty() signal changes. Small fixes
	in the quit dialog's dirty image container.

	* app/tools/gimptoolcontrol.[ch]: added member and API to
	set/get the dirty_mask.

	* app/tools/gimpcroptool.c
	* app/tools/gimpimagemaptool.c
	* app/tools/gimpiscissorstool.c
	* app/tools/gimptexttool.c
	* app/tools/gimptransformtool.c: whenever setting "preserve" to
	FALSE, also set a "dirty_mask" which specifies on which image
	changes the tool wants to be canceled.

	* app/tools/tool_manager.c: removed "undo_start" connection and
	connect to both "dirty" *and* "clean" to check if the active_tool
	needs to be canceled. Cancel the tool only if the dirty_mask
	passed in the signal has common bits with the tool's dirty_mask.

	Fixes bug #109561 and probably opens some new ones...

f0372cad0f Treat changes to the selection like changes to any other drawable:
2003-10-06  Michael Natterer  <mitch@gimp.org>

	Treat changes to the selection like changes to any other drawable:

	* app/core/gimpchannel.c
	* app/core/gimpchannel-combine.c: call gimp_drawable_update() after
	changing the channel.

	* app/core/gimpimage.[ch]: added struct GimpImageFlushAccumulator
	with one member "gboolean mask_changed". Connect to "update" of
	the selection and set accum.mask_changed to TRUE in the callback.
	Added default implementation for GimpImage::flush() and emit
	"mask_changed" there.

	Unrelated:
	* app/core/gimpimage.h: removed GimpGuide struct...
	* app/core/gimpimage-guides.h: ...and added it here.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo-push.c (undo_pop_mask)
	(undo_pop_channel_mod): don't distinguish between selection and
	non-selection channels and just call gimp_drawable_update().

	* app/core/gimpundo.h
	* app/core/gimpimage-undo.c: removed "gboolean mask_changed" from
	the GimpUndoAccumulator struct since we don't have to care about
	that signal explicitly any more.

	* app/display/gimpdisplay-foreach.[ch]: removed gimp_displays_flush().

	* tools/pdbgen/pdb/display.pdb (displays_flush_invoker): call
	gimp_image_flush() on all images so the flush accumulator is
	honored.

	This generalization enables the removal of more special purpose
	code which was needed to treat the selection different:

	* app/core/gimpimage-mask-select.[ch]: removed...

	* app/core/gimpchannel-select.[ch]: ...and added under a new name

	GimpImage parameter from GimpUndoPopFunc and GimpUndoFreeFunc
	because GimpUndo has a GimpImage pointer now (see below).

	* app/core/core-enums.[ch]: added enum GimpUndoEvent. Added an
	enum value for REDO_EXPIRED.

	* app/core/gimpimage.[ch]: added a GimpUndo pointer to the
	"undo_event" signal which needs to be passed for all events except
	UNDO_FREE.

	* app/display/gimpdisplayshell-handlers.c: changed accordingly.

	* app/core/gimpundo.[ch]: added a GimpImage pointer to the
	GimpUndo struct. Removed GimpImage parameters all over the
	place. Added preview stuff. The preview creation needs to be
	triggered explicitly using gimp_undo_create_preview() because the
	GimpUndo can't know when it's possible to create the preview.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo-push.c
	* app/paint/gimppaintcore-undo.c
	* app/tools/gimptransformtool-undo.c: changed accordingly, cleanup.

	* app/core/gimpundostack.[ch]: ditto. Return the freed undo from
	gimp_undo_stack_free_bottom(). Removed unused container signal
	handlers.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo.c: free the redo stack the same way old
	undos are freed (from bottom up). Emit "undo_event" with event ==
	REDO_EXPIRED for each removed redo.

	* app/core/gimpmarshal.list: added new marshallers.

	New undo history implementation:

	* app/widgets/Makefile.am
	* app/widgets/widgets-types.h
	* app/widgets/gimpundoeditor.[ch]
	* app/widgets/gimpundopreview.[ch]: new widgets for the undo
	step previews and the history itself.

	* app/widgets/gimppreview-utils.c: added GimpUndoPreview to the
	list of possible preview types.

	* app/gui/dialogs-constructors.[ch]
	* app/gui/dialogs-menu.c
	* app/gui/dialogs.c
	* app/gui/image-menu.c
	* app/gui/toolbox-menu.c: removed the old and added the new undo
	history to the dialog factory and the various dialog menus.

	* app/widgets/gimpdnd.[ch]: don't warn if a GType has no
	corresponding DND type. Instead, return FALSE from the function
	that failed.

	* app/widgets/gimppreview.c: check the return value of gimpdnd
	functions. Not only add drag sources but also remove them when no

	gimp_container_insert() (Scripts adding layers at wrong indices
	are broken but should not crash the core).

	* tools/pdbgen/pdb/paint_tools.pdb: need to copy the relevant
	paint parameters from the current context now that the paint
	options are contexts themselves.

be70105d3b Moved the undo system to the core: Keep GimpUndoStack objects as undo and
2003-02-12  Michael Natterer  <mitch@gimp.org>

	Moved the undo system to the core: Keep GimpUndoStack objects as
	undo and redo stack. Use GimpUndo objects as members of the
	stacks. GimpUndoStack is derived from GimpUndo and keeps undo
	groups, so undo group handling is much simpler than before
	(the whole group is just a single GimpUndo object on the
	stack and not everything between group boundary markers).

	* app/Makefile.am
	* app/undo_types.h: removed.

	* app/config/gimpcoreconfig.[ch]: added "gulong undo_size".
	* app/config/gimprc-blurbs.h: and its blurb.

	* app/core/core-enums.[ch]: added GimpUndoMode and GimpUndoType.

	* app/core/core-types.h: removed UndoType, added GimpUndoAccumulator,
	GimpUndoPopFunc and GimpUndoFreeFunc.

	* app/core/gimpundo.[ch]: do everything the old "Undo" struct did.
	Removed the virtual push() function and added free().

	* app/core/gimpundostack.[ch]: keeps the new undo/redo stacks
	and also acts as undo group.

	* app/core/gimpimage-undo.[ch]: moved the undo apparatus here.

	* app/core/gimpimage.[ch]: removed the old stuff.

	* app/core/gimpmarshal.list: added marshaller needed for GimpUndo.

	* app/undo.[ch]: removed the whole undo mechanism. Only the
	actual undo pushing functions are left.

	* app/undo_history.c
	* app/gui/edit-commands.c
	* app/gui/file-commands.c
	* app/gui/image-menu.c
	* app/gui/preferences-dialog.c
	* app/tools/gimpeditselectiontool.c: changed accordingly.

e2daae315b an evil temp_hack which lets GimpContext managing the active display
2001-08-14  Michael Natterer  <mitch@gimp.org>

	* app/gdisplay.h: an evil temp_hack which lets GimpContext managing
	the active display withoug including "gdisplay.h". Will go away as
	soon ad context properties are registered dynamically.

	* app/module_db.c: cleaned up the object code in preparation of
	moving it to core/.

	* app/path.c: connect to GimpImage's

	* app/core/gimpobject.[ch]: derive it from GObject, not from
	GtkObject any more (yeah :-)

	* app/core/*.c: #include <glib-object.h> instead of <gtk/gtk.h>,
	removed some remaining GtkObject-isms.

	(left in a few #include <gtk/gtk.h> where bigger changes are needed
	to get rid of the UI dependency).

	* app/core/core-types.h: #include <gdk-pixbuf/gdk-pixbuf.h> here
	temporarily.

	* app/core/gimp.c (gimp_create_display): unref the image after
	creating it's first display.

	* app/core/gimpbrush.[ch]: disabled the parts of the code which
	depend on GimpPaintTool.

	* app/core/gimpbrushgenerated.c
	* app/core/gimpbrushpipe.c: changed accordingly.

	* app/core/gimpcontext.[ch]: evil hack (see above) to manage the
	active display without including "gdisplay.h"

	* app/core/gimpimage-mask.[ch]: pass a context to
	gimage_mask_stroke() and get the current tool's PDB string from
	there.

	* app/core/gimpedit.c: changed accordingly.

	* app/core/gimpimage.c: use gimp_image_update() instead of
	gdisplays_update_full().

	* app/gui/color-area.c
	* app/gui/colormap-dialog.c
	* app/gui/dialogs-constructors.c
	* app/gui/edit-commands.c
	* app/gui/image-commands.c
	* app/gui/toolbox.c: changed accordingly (don't use Gtk methods on
	GObjects).

	* app/gui/menus.c: fix some const warnings by explicit casting.

	* app/tools/*.[ch]: ported all tools to GObject, some minor
	cleanup while i was on it.

	* app/widgets/gimpdialogfactory.[ch]: ported to GObject.

	* app/widgets/gimplayerlistview.h: added FOO_GET_CLASS() macro.

	* tools/pdbgen/app.pl: added a "widgets_eek" hack like "tools_eek"
	which inserts #include "widgets/widgets-types.h" before ordinary
	includes.

	* tools/pdbgen/pdb/brush_select.pdb
	* tools/pdbgen/pdb/edit.pdb
	* app/pdb/brush_select_cmds.c
	* app/pdb/edit_cmds.c: changed according to the stuff above.
