2a2c6ee8d1 * lisp/info.el (Info-default-directory-list): Don't check /share,info. 
No-one puts info pages there.  If /share does exist, it's likely to
contain remote file systems where access could be slow.

284c470ef7 Backslash cleanup in Elisp source files 
This patch should not change behavior.  It typically omits backslashes
where they are redundant (e.g., in the string literal "^\$").
In a few places, insert backslashes where they make regular
expressions clearer: e.g., replace "^\*" (equivalent to "^*") with
"^\\*", which has the same effect as a regular expression.
Also, use ‘\ %’ instead of ‘\%’ when avoiding confusion with SCCS IDs,
and similarly use ‘\ $’ instead of ‘\$’ when avoiding confusion with
RCS IDs, as that makes it clearer that the backslash is intended.

244c801689 Extend ‘format’ to translate curved quotes 
This is a followup to the recent doc string change, and deals with
diagnostics and the like.  This patch is more conservative than
the doc string change, in that the behavior of ‘format’ changes
only if its first arg contains curved quotes and the user prefers
straight or grave quotes.  (Come to think of it, perhaps we should
be similarly conservative with doc strings too, but that can wait.)
The upside of this conservatism is that existing usage is almost
surely unaffected.  The downside is that we'll eventually have to
change Emacs's format strings to use curved quotes in places where
the user might want curved quotes, but that's a simple and
mechanical translation that I'm willing to do later.  (Bug#21222)

3d139d59fb Fix info-apropos when the default encoding is Latin-N

'undecided', so that it is set to the encoding of the Info file we

5697ca55cb Do not allow out-of-range character position in Fcompare_strings. 
* src/fns.c (validate_subarray): Add prototype.
(Fcompare_substring): Use validate_subarray to check ranges.
Adjust comment to mention that the semantics was changed.  Also see

* lisp/info.el (info--prettify-description): New function,
to give info-finder descriptions consistent case, punctuation.
(Info-finder-find-node): Use it.  Sort packages.
Refer to "description" rather than "commentary".
