Network Types
This repository contains a small static reference site for common network types. The site presents a homepage list and separate detail pages for each network topic.
Overview
- index.html is the homepage and main entry point.
- Each network type has its own page, such as pan.html, lan.html, and government-network.html.
- Additional organization-focused pages cover enterprise-network.html, foundation-network.html, community-network.html, and university-network.html.
- network_companies.html provides a practical, categorized list of major network and telecom companies worldwide.
- kernel.html lists major contributors to Linux, BSD, GNU Hurd, and related free software kernel ecosystems, including Unix and MINIX pioneers.
- network_subsystem.html compares network subsystem design across major operating system families.
- language-toggle.js provides the shared English/Turkish language switch for the detail pages.
- The homepage also includes a dark theme option.
What the site does
- Shows a vertical, numbered list of network types on the homepage.
- Opens each network type on a dedicated detail page.
- Lets the user switch between USA English and Turkey Turkish.
- Lets the user switch the homepage between light and dark theme.
- Remembers the selected language and theme in browser storage.

- Turkish network companies and vendors.
- Firewall software vendors and projects (including OPNsense and pfSense).

- Switch operating systems and network software references.
Recent updates also improved Turkish wording and character usage in the shared bilingual copy used by this page.
Language support
The site supports two content languages:
- USA English
- Turkey Turkish
The homepage uses a language switch to update the list labels, titles, and descriptions. The detail pages share the same saved language setting and swap their visible content through the shared script.
Theme support
- The homepage includes a dark theme toggle.
- All detail pages now include a shared dark/light theme toggle through language-toggle.js.
- The selected theme is stored locally in the browser.
- Language and theme are independent settings.
File layout
- index.html: homepage with the list, theme toggle, and language toggle.
- language-toggle.js: shared language handling for the detail pages.
*.html: detail pages for each network type.- network_types.txt: plain text version of the network list.
- ChangeLog.md: project history.
Usage
Open index.html in a browser and use the language and theme buttons in the header. Select any network type to open its detail page.
Notes
- The site is static and does not require a backend.
- Browser storage is used to remember the selected language and theme.
- The English copy uses USA English spelling and phrasing.
- The kernel contributors page now explicitly includes Richard Stallman, Dennis Ritchie, Ken Thompson, and Andrew S. Tanenbaum (MINIX).
